The Sharjah Public Prosecution referred an Arab to court for insulting a person by saying “You are a bastard” after disputes over the sale and purchase.

The complainant told the court that the suspect wanted to buy a machine worth Dhs12,500, and after agreeing on the final price, the suspect brought a vehicle to load the machine on and paid Dhs7,500, pledging to pay the rest of the sum in the same evening.

The suspect did not keep his word and the complainant communicated with him by phone, and via WhatsApp, but he told him he would not pay, justifying that the machine was not working, and he refused to return it.

The complainant added that he tried to persuade him that the machine was good and insisted on asking for the remaining amount via a phone call, but the latter said to him, “You are a bastard.” In court, the suspect confessed to what he committed, affirming that he did not intentionally insult or offend the complainant.

The Sharjah Misdemeanour Court deferred the case to March 3 to rule upon the complainant’s request.

Earlier, the Sharjah Criminal Court adjourned a case in which an Arab was charged with destroying a vehicle after stealing stuff from it.

The case dates back to Jan.9 when the defendant broke the side window of the parking vehicle and stole a wallet and a mobile phone that belonged to the vehicle owner before he ran away.

When confronted by the court, the defendant denied all the charges levelled against him, pleading he had nothing to do with the theft and requested the competent authorities interrogating him to check the surveillance cameras fixed in the place to identify the thief. His words and request, however, were treated as insignificant.

Asked about the witnesses’ testimonies during the Public Prosecution’s interrogations that stolen items were seized from him and he was involved in other thefts, the defendant denied all the allegations and asked for some time to read the case papers.
