ABU DHABI: Dr Najiba Mohammed Abdul Razzaq, Chairman of the Committee for Prevention and Control of Infection at the Ministry of Health and Community Protection, Co-Chair of the National Committee for Combating Antimicrobials, revealed the Ministry’s launch of an electronic system to monitor infection in the UAE’s hospitals aiming to improve the mechanism of inventory of infected cases, take necessary preventive measures, and improve the quality Information and confidentiality.

Dr Abdul Razzaq pointed out that all hospitals will receive international accreditation during 2020, thanks to the advanced systems to control infection in hospitals. This came during the second day of the Third International Conference on Infection Prevention and Control, organized on Friday by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company “Seha” at Grand Hyatt Hotel, over three days with the participation of 1,000 participants of international expertise in the field, from America, Europe, the Middle East and the GCC region, in addition to local experiences.

Dr Abdul Razzaq also revealed that the monitoring of prescriptions for antibiotics will soon be unified at the level of UAE hospitals.

Dr Abdullah called on individuals to receive vaccinations, especially flu vaccination every winter, starting from children at the age of 6 months to the elderly, stressing the need to exercise and eat healthy food containing vegetables and fruits.

For his part, Dr Jihad Abdullah, Consultant of Infectious Diseases, at Al Rahba hospital said the rate of infection within hospitals is less than 3%, and hospitals aim to reduce it to zero. The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) recently organised a meeting to develop the second cancer indicator 2019 to come up with effective and quick solutions that help reduce cancer mortalities in the country.

The meeting was held in the presence of Dr Mona Al Kuwari, Director of Specialised Care and Vice Chairman of the Executive Team, representatives from the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority, Abu Dhabi Department of Health, Dubai Health Authority and Sharjah Health Authority, representatives of the private medical sector and oncologists, and the international expert Prof. Rolf Stahel.
