Vehicles move at a slow pace near the flood-hit areas in Kalba.

The National Authority for Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management advised residents to stay away from the beaches and coastal areas in the eastern region of the country.

The city of Khorfakkan last night witnessed a rise in the water level on the shores and the authorities closed the roads near the coastal areas.

The Emergency and Crisis Committee in Kalba City advised the general population and visitors to stay away from the areas adjacent to the sea, and to cooperate with security personnel and fieldworkers in organising traffic to ensure the safety of all, so that the competent authorities can carry out their duties.

The Kalba Emergency and Crisis Committee closed the Corniche Road towards the exit leading to Fujairah City and advised drivers to use alternative roads until further notice, with traffic continuing towards the entrance to Kalba normally.

Sharjah Police helped clear waterlogged roads after Cyclone Kyarr leads to rise in sea levels in some coastal areas of the Emirate.

The National Meteorological Centre said on Monday that the tropical Cyclone Kyarr, which was moving inwards from the Arabian Sea to the land.

The centre predicted that the cyclone will continue to move west-northwest to the west of the Arabian Sea, where it will turn into a typhoon of the third category, then to the second category. The wind speed is estimated around 170-200km/ in the next 48 hours.

As for the expected impact in the UAE, the centre said that the sea in the east coast of the country will witness turbulence from Tuesday until Thursday, and that floods may happen on some low-lying areas of the east coast.

The centre predicted that the weather on Tuesday would be generally pleasant. There is no chance of rain.
