Police save driver after cruise-control failure

Sharjah Police coordinated with other patrols present on the same road to alert them about the situation.

Patrols of the Sharjah Police’s Traffic and Patrols Department saved the life of a 22 year-old driver whose vehicle’s cruise control failed at 135 km/h on Emirates Road heading to Umm Al Quwain.

The Sharjah Police operations room received a call around 12:30 pm on Sunday reporting that a young local citizen was facing a failure in the cruise control of his vehicle. External roads police patrols immediately rushed to deal with the life-threatening situation with full professionalism through direct contact with the young driver, and providing instant guidance on what he should do.

Patrols police officers made sure the driver should fasten his seat belt first to ensure his well-being, and guided him to the safety precautions that should be taken in such situation. The driver was told to remain calm and attentive to all road directions, besides using warning the vehicle’s hazard warning lights.

Additionally, Sharjah Police coordinated with other patrols present on the same road to alert them about the situation and help clear the path for the driver to ensure his ultimate safety and security. Officers of the patrols managed to surround the uncontrolled vehicle from the front and back, until its speed was slowly reduced without causing any injuries to the driver.

The Sharjah Police General Headquarters calls upon all drivers to be cautious and not fully rely on the vehicle’s cruise control, besides abiding to the set speed limits and adhere to the traffic rules and regulations. He urged drivers to report any emergency failures in their vehicle and make regular check-ups to avoid such dangerous situations.

Recently, a young Emirati man, Sultan Saeed Khalfan Al Shamsi, 22, was killed in a traffic accident that took place on the trucks road in Al Ain City. He was killed after the vehicle he was driving rammed into a lamppost on the cement factory road.

According to a relative of the deceased, the accident took place when the young man, who was expected to be graduated from Zayed Military College early next year, was heading to the college after the Asr prayer.

The funeral prayer was performed in Martyr Omer Al Miqbali Mosque after the Isha prayer and the deceased was later buried in Umm Ghfah Cemetery.

Earlier, a Palestinian student, identified as Abdullah M.K, 8, escaped death in a traffic accident that took place recently on a Ras Al Khaimah road.
