The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court started hearing a case in which a Gulf national was charged with using an ID card that belonged to another person and presenting it to the police.

According to the official records, the Public Prosecution levelled four charges against the defendant. These included presenting an ID card belonging to another person to a policeman, assaulting a policeman while on duty, driving a police vehicle without permission and possessing hashish and heroin.

Asked about the court, the defendant denied the charges levelled against him, pleading that he was not available in the place where the incident took place. He asked the court to give him enough time to write his plea. The court decided to adjourn the hearing to Monday, Sept.16.

In another development, the Fujairah Criminal Court heard a case in which an Asian was charged with theft and infringement on third party property.

According to the official records, the defendant planned to rob a car and kept an eye open on the car owner, a Gulf citizen, until he parked his car near a building in Fujairah and was absent for a while.

After making sure that everything was quiet around the targeted car, the defendant rushed to the car and broke its front glass. He found a mobile phone inside the car so he took it and ran away. When the victim came back, he found that the windshield of his car had been broken and called the police immediately.

Following intensive investigations and checking the surveillance cameras, the defendant was soon recognised and was subsequently arrested. He was referred to the Public Prosecution, which referred the file of his case to the court.

Earlier, the Abu Dhabi Court of Cassation upheld the Court of First Instance ruling sentencing a suspect to three months in jail on the charge of conniving with two other suspects to steal Dhs660,000 through deceiving a tenant by claiming they were property owners.
