UAE, Sudan discuss steps to boost relations

The prospects for further advancing UAE-Sudan relations were reviewed by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Lt. General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan, Chairman of the Sovereignty Council of the Republic of Sudan.

This came during a phone conversation where the two leaders exchanged views over current regional and international developments and ways of consolidating cooperation on various fronts.

During the call, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed congratulated the Sudanese people on the recent formation of their government, wishing them prosperity and success in their development drive.

“The UAE is standing by Sudan in their efforts to maintain their unity, security and stability,” Sheikh Mohamed said.

For his part, Al Burhan thanked Sheikh Mohamed for his fraternal feelings and wished the UAE further prosperity and progress.

In May, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, had received Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah Burhan, Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Military Council,TMC, in Abu Dhabi and underscored that the UAE will back Sudan to achieve peaceful political transition.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed affirmed that the UAE would stand with Sudan in its efforts to preserve its security and stability, fulfil aspirations of the brotherly Sudanese people for development and progress and to realise a peaceful political transition under national reconciliation and unity.

Sheikh Mohamed said he was confident of the Sudanese people’s ability and their national institutions to overcome this stage and move towards the future with a united national spirit.

Sheikh Mohamed said the UAE would spare no effort to do whatever is good for the brotherly people of Sudan.

‘’Dialogue is important in this critical moment Sudan is passing through. With dialogue, Sudan will reach at national reconciliation, realise its aspirations, strengthen its stability and usher into a new prosperous chapter with confident steps towards the future,’’  Mohamed bin Zayed    stressed.

Highlighting the deeply-rooted, fraternal UAE-Sudan’s ties, Sheikh Mohamed said the UAE is always at the forefront to provide support to the Sudanese people.

Sheikh Mohamed expressed best wishes of bright future under which Sudan will achieve development, progress and harmony.

For his part, Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah Burhan expressed thanks and gratitude to the UAE for its supportive stances towards Sudan, especially its financial assistance to Sudan’s economy.

He hailed ties between the peoples of the UAE and Sudan as ‘’deep’’.

General Hamad Mohammed Thani Al Rumaithi, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces;Mohammed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court; and Hamad Mohammed Al Junaibi, UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Sudan; and the delegation accompanying the Sudanese leader had attended the meeting.

In August, Dr Sultan bin Ahmad Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State had affirmed the UAE is supporting Sudan in its quest to create a political system capable of achieving the development of the state and driving the country towards a prosperous future.

In a statement following his participation in the ceremony held in Khartoum to sign the Constitutional and Political Declarations by the Transitional Military Council, TMC, and Forces of Freedom and Change alliance, Dr. Al Jaber reiterated the UAE’s principled position that supports every effort that achieves security, stability and prosperity for Sudan and its people.

The UAE is looking forward to this positive and important step which will mark a new phase that ensures participation of all spectrums of Sudanese national forces which will consolidate the stability of the political system.
