A resident of the UAE has been fined Dh10,000 for posting a picture of another person on social media without the person's consent.

Based on reports by Al Bayan, the Abu Dhabi court said the defendant should pay Dhs21,000 to the complainant as a temporary compensation.

According to the public prosecution, the defendant invaded the complainant's privacy.

Therefore, he should be punished in accordance to the articles 1, 3/21, 41, 42 and the federal law No. 5, 2012.

The Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance had fined the accused Dh10,000.

The defendant challenged the ruling before the Court of Cassation.

He said the picture was already posted on social media by the complainant before he posted it. But the court found him guilty and affirmed the sentence.
