A number of activities have been organised by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) including Islamic lectures, community events and charitable and humanitarian activities throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan.

A large number of employees took part in the activities that celebrate the spirit of the Holy Month and support Dewa’s efforts to establish the values of communication and collaboration.

Activities included 8 Islamic lectures in Arabic and English at Dewa’s head office and its branches in Warsan, Al Quoz, and Al Hudaiba. Dewa continued to organise the ‘Abayaty and Kandoraty’ annual initiative in collaboration with Human Appeal International (HAI). The initiative collects usable clothes to distribute among needy families in the UAE and encourage Dewa employees to take part in voluntary and charitable work, especially during the Holy Month of Ramadan. To make it easier for employees to pay their Zakat Al-Fitr, Dewa has provided donation platforms in cooperation with the Dar Al Ber Society.

“Dewa’s role is not limited to providing electricity and water services according to the highest quality, efficiency and reliability standards, but also serves as a socially-responsible government organisation. This supports the vision and directives of the wise leadership, and the Dubai Plan 2021, to make Dubai an inclusive and cohesive society that embraces common civic values, with cohesive families and communities forming the bedrock of society. Dewa adopts an integrated plan for charitable and humanitarian work to consolidate the values of giving and voluntary work among employees, and encourage them to participate in various social and humanitarian initiatives and programmes,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dewa. The civic body provides daily Iftar meals for about 2,300 people throughout the Holy Month across different locations. These include Dewa’s Head Office where it has set up an Iftar tent for staff who are on duty during Maghrib prayers and for anyone else from all nations. Iftar meals are also distributed at power stations, water desalination plants and for employees who are on duty during Iftar in various departments and emergency services in different Dewa locations.

Dar Alber Society branch in Ras Al Khaimah has revived the Zayed Day for Humanitarian Work by launching a special initiative on Iftar of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God have mercy on him, in establishment of his values, accomplishments and achievements in hearts and minds.
