‘Al Qasba Ramadan Nights’ to run from May 16-25

Al Qasba, Sharjah’s premier leisure and family destination, is inviting families to enjoy its line-up of diverse activities with its ‘Al Qasba Ramadan Nights’ that’s being held in collaboration with Art Verve.

The Ramadan programme will see a sprawling market with 20 kiosks selling fashionable clothes and accessories, handicrafts, souvenirs, art and craft stations and a buzzing kids’ play area.

The bazaar will also entertain visitors with henna artists and face painting kiosks.

An array of food outlets selling delicious snacks will include patisseries, juice shops and ice-cream vendors.

‘Al Qasba Ramadan Nights’ will run from May 16-25, every evening between 6pm to 11pm, giving residents and visitors from around the world the opportunity to savour a unique cultural and community experience during the Holy Month.

Throughout these 10 days, Al Qasba will be in a festive mood with the main bridge across Al Qasba canal converted into a ‘tunnel of light’, a picturesque haven that fosters community engagement which is the true essence of Ramadan.

Khuloud Salim Al Junaibi, General Manager of Al Qasba, said, “With Al Qasba being a leading family tourism destination and home to many cultures, the venue has always celebrated different occasions with the public. Keeping in line with this tradition, ‘Al Qasba Ramadan nights’ will showcase the emirate’s diverse tourism offerings within a modern Arabic setting, while still retaining its Islamic values and roots.

“The various community-oriented activities of this event will focus on the values of Ramadan such as compassion, giving and sharing, and strengthening of family bonds, as well as offering people from different cultural backgrounds a valuable insight into Emirati, Arabic and Islamic traditions,” she added.

Sumptuous international cuisines will afford visitors an amazing gastronomical experience spread across various Middle Eastern and international food and beverage outlets along Al Qasba’s walkways, both before dawn’s Suhoor and following the firing of the Ramadan cannon, which will announce the breaking of the fast at sunset’s Iftar.

A week  ago Masrah Al Qasba – Theatre organised The sixth performance of the World of Stories series. Packed with impeccable narration and soulful music, the stage performance of famed Arabian fable Aladdin swept the theatre lovers off their feet as it took them on a magical journey of adventure, with flying carpets and the legend of the genie.

The performance saw the characters from the famous folktale come to life, as the audience at the jam-packed venue explored various aspects of the story of a kind-hearted street urchin named Aladdin and the power-hungry wicked sorcerer, who lures him into rubbing the magic lamp that is capable of granting any wish.

The story takes an interesting turn as Aladdin discovers a wish-granting genie on rubbing the lamp, only to realise later that there is no easy way to get what you want. He learns some valuable life lessons as the story flows along.

The spectacular performance brought a flavour of traditional Arabic storytelling to the fore, and also proved an effective tool of instilling the values of integrity and honesty in children and young audience who enjoyed the performance.

The very gist of the story was exemplified with the powerful acting skills of the artists on stage, and it sent out a strong message that there are no shortcuts to success.

The World of Stories series features 13 theatre shows that are aimed at educating children about the history of classic fairy tales and music. The performances motivate children to enhance their self-confidence and communicate with love and peace.

Recently, Masrah Al Qasba - Theatre enthralled young audiences last weekend with a masterful Pocahontas musical show, bringing them the core human messages of love and friendship via the joyous medium of song and dance.
