Israel and the United States are putting the financial squeeze on the Palestinian Authority (PA), where opposition to a long-awaited US peace plan and anger over Israeli sanctions remain strong.

Israel has massed troops along the border and called up 9,000 reservists as fighting intensifies with the Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip.
