Zayed Academy celebrates ‘International Day’ in Pakistan

The ceremony held under the patronage of Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al Zaabi, UAE Ambassador to Pakistan, began with the UAE national anthem. It was followed by a speech by Al Zaabi on the academy’s leading role in the education sector, its academic and cultural excellence, and its efforts to improve the education system in Pakistan, and on the role played by the UAE Embassy in supporting the academy.
Al Zaabi also highlighted the academy’s efforts to raise awareness about cultures, tolerance, coexistence, love and acceptance, as well as to encourage respect for other cultures and traditions and harmony among students of various nationalities, to prepare them to lead their communities in the future. He then thanked the academy’s administrative and teaching staff for their efforts to make the day succeed and reinforce the academy’s role in the education sector.
Al Zaabi stressed that values of compassion, peace, tolerance, openness and coexistence are the basic components of the UAE’s cultural pluralism since its establishment while noting that the country hosts over 200 nationalities in its territories and its laws reinforce the values of respect and equality and criminalise hatred and intolerance. The UAE has also ratified international conventions that aim to combat violence, extremism and racial discrimination, to become a global capital of dialogue among civilisations, with the aim of reinforcing peace and social cohesion, he added.
The academy, which was founded by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan in 2003 and is supported by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is being managed on the directives of Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, and has become the largest educational establishment in Islamabad.
The International Day ceremony included theatrical and educational performances held in the academy’s theatre, as well as artistic performances about several cultures in many languages, and folklore dance from around the world. The academy’s students wore traditional costumes representing 25 countries. A cultural exhibition was also held on the sidelines of the event, which showcased various cultures and traditional crafts.
The event was attended by members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Pakistan, local officials, representatives of the academic community, parents of students, and the academy’s administrative and teaching staff.
Recently, the Sheikha Fatima Global Humanitarian Campaign launched ‘Zayed Al Khair Camp’ in Pakistan’s city of Sukkur to treat thousands of children and women, under the supervision of Emirati-Pakistani doctors.
The campaign is being held under the theme, ‘Following in the Footsteps of Zayed,’ and as part of the ‘All of us are our Mother Fatima’ programme.
Noura Al Suwaidi, Director of the General Women’s Union, GWU, said that the initiative coincides with the celebration of the Emirati Children’s Day, which is marked on 15th March, in a message full of love, tenderness and tolerance for the children of Pakistan, regardless of their colour, race, or religion.
She added that the move is in line with the directives of the country’s wise leadership that 2019 is the ‘Year of Tolerance’, and to promote the role of the UAE and its humanitarian and civilisation mission.
Al Suwaidi noted that the campaign is a joint initiative by the Zayed Giving Initiative, the General Women’s Union, Saudi-German Hospitals Group, in partnership with the Pakistani government, private and non-profit institutions and in coordination with the UAE Embassy in Pakistan, to alleviate the suffering of children and women.
She added that the Zayed Al Khair Camp aims at establishing a culture of voluntary work, social giving, and humanitarian tolerance among young people.
Al Suwaidi affirmed that the UAE is a pioneer in the field of humanitarian work thanks to the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. This approach has been followed by the country’s leadership until the UAE became the top donour of foreign aid and leads the humanitarian projects.
The GWU Director lauded the humanitarian and leading role of H.H. Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the GWU, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, especially in women empowerment and providing care to children.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr Salim Al Khadim Al Dhahnani, UAE Consul-General in Karachi, who listened to an explanation from the camp supervisors about the UAE’s campaigns in Pakistan.
