UAE will observe its first Super Moon of 2019

DUBAI: A rare astronomical phenomenon will be visible over the UAE on Monday – a Super Blood Wolf Moon. The stunning celestial show has been eagerly-anticipated by both amateur photographers and eclipse experts.

Supermoon: A supermoon is a full moon or a new moon that approximately coincides with the closest distance that the Moon reaches to Earth in its elliptic orbit (less than 360,000 km), resulting in a larger-than-usual apparent size of the lunar disk as seen from Earth. The First 3 Full Moons Of 2019 Are Supermoons and tomorrow is going to be first among them.

The supermoon will be visible on the night of January 21, and on average a supermoon is almost 13 per cent brighter than a full moon. Even though the eclipse will not be visible to people in the UAE, people in North and South America, and western parts of Europe and Africa will be able to witness the total eclipse, with a partial eclipse visible in parts of Africa and Asia.

US space agency NASA reports the Moon’s eclipse will hit totality at 7.04am GST over UAE, so due to sunlight in this region eclipse phenomena will not visible for public in UAE region.

How to observe: Dubai Astronomy Group CEO Mr. Hasan Al Hariri has stated that to observe this amazing opportunity we will advise to people to go to a high point or finding an unobstructed area with free sight for the best view of the supermoon.
