The photo is believed to be from Norfolk, close to the princess’ Cambridge house.

The 6-year-old Charlotte is seen wearing a simple blue T-shirt and a pair of pink shorts.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wrote on Twitter, “We wanted to share these beautiful Peacock and Red Admiral butterflies as part of Big #ButterflyCount initiative taking place across the UK.”

Kayla Adams wrote on Twitter, “Such a lovely photo of Charlotte, so important to encourage kids to get involved with nature.”

Another user wrote, “What a great initiative and wonderful surprise these pictures are so beautiful!! Princess Charlotte is just adorable I'm sure they were all taken by our super talented Duchess.”

The Big Butterfly Count came into being in 2010. Since then it has become the world’s biggest survey of butterflies.

In 2020, people from all over Britain submitted 145,249 butterfly counts.
