In an auction organised by Sotheby's between Sept.15-22 a hat of Napoleon Bonaparte will go under the hammer.

The auction is being held to mark the 200th anniversary of the death of the Emperor of France.

The initial price of the two-horned hat is estimated at between €400,000 and €600,000 Euros, according to a statement issued by the Sotheby's .

Nineteen hats of the same kind were also found but experts believe the hat that Sotheby's will sell was on the emperor's head during the 1807 victory campaign.

They believed that the emperor wore the same hat during the signing of the two treaties of Tilsit between Napoleon and Tsar Alexander I of Russia.

In 1814, Scottish politician Sir Michael Shaw Stewart bought the hat, and it remained in the possession of his family for generations.

The celebration of the 200th anniversary of Napoleon’s death on May 5, 1821 caused controversy in France.

People who supported the idea praised his military vision but opponents denounced the hundreds of thousands of deaths due to his military campaigns.
