A 19-year-old Emirati captured some stunning photos of the ‘Pink Lake’ that he discovered on the Ras Al Khaimah coastline.

The unusual ‘Pink Lake’ has been doing the rounds on social media across UAE.

The 19-year-old Emirati clicked stunning photos of the ‘Pink Lake’ on the Ras Al Khaimah coastline.

Ammar Al Farsi, from Sharjah, is a university student. He said, “I spotted the "salt lake" and took pictures of it, after a friend told me about the natural phenomenon.”

The pictures were taken with a drone around 100 metres away from the coast at Saraya Islands, located in the Al Rams area of Ras Al Khaimah.

The tendency to pink is due to the flowering or proliferation of red algae which includes more than 4000 species.

Al Farsi described the lake was approximately 10m wide and 40m in length.

Dr. Saif Al-Ghais, Director General of the Environment Protection and Development Authority (EPDA) in Ras Al-Khaimah, explained that the phenomenon of water discolouration and its transformation or tendency to pink is due to the flowering or proliferation of "red algae", which are formed in major groups that incorporate more than 4,000 species.

He added that the authority cannot decide on the matter and categorically interpret the pink colour of the lake until samples are taken from the site, analysed and scientifically studied.
