Although the White House has had plenty of dogs during stints of various presidents over the years, it was pet-free during Trump’s tenure.
Mr Biden owns two German Shepherds, Champ and Major, who he and his wife Jill adopted from the Delaware Humane Association in November 2018, 10 years after they purchased Champ from a breeder.
Major belongs to a litter of six other German Shepherds puppies who were rescued and given "life-saving medical care" after exposure to "something toxic in their home," a Delaware Humane Association news release said at the time of adoption.
Following Mr Biden’s inauguration, Champ and Major will accompany the Bidens to Washington, with Major’s arrival making history — the first time a rescue dog has lived in the White House.

Former Vice President Joe Biden is trying to reassure voters. Like former President Obama, he is promising that “If you like your health plan, your employer-based plan, you can keep it.” Don’t bet on it. Some presidential candidates support directly outlawing private health plans, and replacing them with a single-payer, government-run health plan.
