Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Drake have been summer favourites for a good few years now, we think it is time to delve deeper into the music pool and find out just what we are missing. This week we take a look at some up-and-coming artists who are making waves in their respective genres.

Hailing from London, the gorgeous Izzy Bizu has already established success on the UK charts. Thanks to BBC Radio 1 giving her music proper airtime, the R&B singer has opened for acts such as Coldplay, Sam Smith and Rudimental during their tours in the UK. Growing up Bizu was influenced by Ella Fitzgerald and James Brown and later on Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse and Adele. All these influences helped to create her unique sound which is a mix of soul, jazz, pop and R&B.

Named as one of Yahoo Music’s “Top 10 Bands to Watch” in 2017, The Accidentals have gone from strength to strength. Comprised of three members who can altogether play over a dozen musical instruments, the band has a very interesting sound which includes rock, folk and indie influences. In April the trio released a live album.

Dope Saint Jude has got the rap world up and listening to her talented and meaningful tunes. From Cape Town, the young singer uses her fame and music to highlight social issues and minority identity. Interestingly, the rapper has been a guest lecturer at some of Cape Town’s top universities where she promotes hip-hop as a tool for social reform. Multitalented indeed!

In other news this week, the heat has well and truly descended and for those runners out there who refuse to give up their outdoor runs and use a treadmill, we have some guidelines for you. Obviously hydration is everything as well as the timing of your run. Turn to our Fitness pages to read more.
