The film is inspired by the life of Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar, a legendary Marathi folk artist, Lavani dancer and Tamasha performer from Maharashtra. She belonged to a family of traditional Tamasha artistes. From a very young age, she developed a passion for singing, dancing and acting. Through her extraordinary talent, powerful expressions and dedication, she became one of the most celebrated performers in Maharashtra.
She was popularly known as “Tamasha Samradni” (Empress of Tamasha), and received national recognition and Presidential honours for her contribution to folk art. Her life was marked by remarkable dedication, courage and determination. Despite facing personal and financial difficulties, she continued to preserve and promote Maharashtra’s traditional folk culture. She also worked for the welfare of fellow Tamasha artists. In 2006, the Maharashtra government established the Vithabai Narayangaonkar Lifetime Achievement Award in her memory, honouring outstanding contributions to Tamasha.
Produced by Maddock Films, the film is helmed by Laxman Utekar, and is set to bow in theatres on December 4, 2026. The daughter of actor Shakti Kapoor, she began her acting career with a brief role in the 2010 heist film Teen Patti, and followed it with her first leading role in the teen drama Luv Ka The End (2011). Kapoor had her breakthrough for playing a singer in the commercially successful romantic musical Aashiqui 2 (2013), for which she received a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress.
The following year, she portrayed a character based on Ophelia in Vishal Bhardwaj’s highly acclaimed ensemble drama Haider (2014). Kapoor established herself with starring roles in the romantic thriller Ek Villain (2014), the dance drama ABCD 2 (2015) and the action film Baaghi (2016). Following a series of poorly-received films, her highest-grossing releases came with the horror comedy Stree (2018), the action thriller Saaho (2019), the comedy-drama Chhichhore (2019)
