Wildfires force George Clooney's family to evacuate their home in France

George and Amal Clooney have evacuated their home in the south of France as wildfires continue to sweep across parts of southern Europe, with the couple saying they have “no idea” whether their property will survive.
George Clooney and his family have been forced to evacuate their home in southeastern France because of a wildfire burning nearby, his agent said on Thursday.
The Hollywood star behind the "Ocean's Eleven" franchise and other films made the statement in a letter to Didier Bremond, the mayor of the town of Brignoles, some 90 kilometres east of Marseille, publicist Guido Gotz told The Associated Press in an email.
Addressed "Dear Didier," the letter said Clooney and his wife Amal, a human rights lawyer, had "no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment." But as they evacuate Brignoles they wanted to assure Bremond that, whatever happens to the community, "we'll be part of making it whole," the letter said.
“At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment,” the couple wrote, according to People magazine, which first reported it.
“As we evacuate Brignoles we want to emphasise two things, first we hope you and the people of our city are safe and second that Amal and I are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole. We love Brignoles and our friends who live there.”
The Independent has reached out to the Clooneys’ representatives for comment.
George, 64, and Amal, 48, live in the town with their nine-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella. They bought the house for a reported $8.3m in 2021, and the 425-acre estate reportedly consists of an 18th-century mansion with a pool, tennis court, vast gardens, and an ornamental lake.
The family made the French countryside their primary residence after moving there from the US last year and were granted French citizenship in 2025.
A prolonged heatwave, combined with tinder-dry vegetation, low humidity, and strong winds, has fuelled wildfires across southern Europe. In France, about 224,000 people have been evacuated from the Gironde region in the south-west, while a further 3,000 people have been forced to leave their homes in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, where the Clooneys live, according to CNN.
The largest blaze, burning near Bordeaux, has scorched more than 42,000 hectares – an area roughly four times the size of Paris – and officials have warned that high temperatures and shifting winds continue to pose a risk of fresh flare-ups despite progress in containing parts of the fire.
