In a stirring celebration of World Ocean Day 2026 (June 8), artists, environmental advocates and community members came together for Guardians of the Blue, a sustainable live art experience that transformed artistic creativity into a call for ocean conservation. Curated by Jesno Jackson & Art4you Gallery in collaboration with The Green Revolution, the event featured 12 artists from Egypt, Russia, India, Romania, and Iran, who painted live on sustainable wooden turtle panels, creating artworks inspired by marine life, environmental responsibility, and the urgent need to protect the oceans.
Guardians of the Blue became a platform where creativity met climate consciousness. As visitors watched the artworks evolve in real time, they witnessed visual narratives emerge, recounting stories of fragile ecosystems, endangered marine species, plastic pollution, and the collective responsibility that has to be shared in safeguarding the blue planet.
The turtle, one of the ocean’s most iconic yet vulnerable creatures, was perhaps the perfect symbol for the initiative. Each wooden turtle was transformed into a unique artistic statement, reflecting hope, resilience, and the interconnected relationship between humanity and nature.
In the times where environmental challenges continue to threaten marine ecosystems worldwide, sustainable live art offers a meaningful and engaging way to communicate critical messages. Unlike traditional awareness campaigns, live art creates an emotional connection between the audience and a cause, encouraging dialogue, reflection, and action. “Art has the power to make people feel what statistics cannot,” said Rengi Cherian, CEO Art4you Gallery. “Through every brushstroke, artists become advocates, transforming environmental concerns into stories that resonate with the public,” he added.
The event aligned with the global mission of World Ocean Day and highlighted how cultural initiatives can contribute to sustainability conversations. By utilising sustainable wooden surfaces and focusing on environmental themes, Guardians of the Blue demonstrated how art can become a responsible and impactful medium for change. The live painting experience, held on June 14, attracted art lovers, families, sustainability advocates, and community leaders, creating an environment where creativity served a greater purpose than mere art making.
The completed artworks by Svetlana Fumicheva, Vasilisa Eliseeva, Jesno Jackson, Cristina Gabriela, Thomas Antony, Ekaterina Novokreshchenova, Maiia Opuk, Shaghayegh Rabiei, Barathi Annamalai Mehansi, Shakiba Rabiei, Dr. (Hon.) Bhumika Maniyar and Fatma el Zahraa Mohamed, now stand as visual ambassadors for ocean conservation, reminding viewers that every action, no matter how small, can contribute to protecting marine life and preserving precious natural resources for future generations.
The event was elevated by the presence of Chief Guest Abdulrahman Al Dashti, whose active participation reinforced the importance of community engagement in environmental conservation. By supporting initiatives that unite art, sustainability, and public awareness, he highlighted the growing role of creative platforms in addressing global environmental challenges. His encouragement of participating artists and appreciation of the artworks, underscored the power of culture and creativity in encouraging positive action for our oceans and future generations.
“A special note of appreciation goes to our Venue Partner, The Green Revolution, whose beautiful plant boutique provided the perfect setting for Guardians of the Blue,” said Jesno Jackson. “Surrounded by nature, sustainability, and ocean theme, the venue enhances the event’s message of environmental responsibility and mindful living.” Adding a meaningful touch to the celebration, CEO & Founder of The Green Revolution Dr. (Hon.) Bhumika Maniyar, presented customised aquatic plant gifts, symbolising the vital connection between water, life, and ecological balance. The thoughtful living gifts served as reminders of realising a shared commitment to protecting the environment and nurturing a sustainable future.
As climate concerns continue to shape global conversations, events such as Guardians of the Blue prove that artists play a vital role in driving awareness and inspiring positive action. “When creativity is combined with environmental responsibility, art becomes a movement,” Jesno Jackson said. “The success of Guardians of the Blue reinforces the growing importance of sustainable art practices and demonstrates how cultural platforms can support international environmental goals through education, engagement, and community participation.
“Because the ocean cannot speak for itself, artists have chosen to become its voice. Through colour, creativity and collective action, Guardians of the Blue delivers a powerful message: protecting our oceans is not merely an environmental responsibility, but is a shared human commitment.” World Ocean Day is celebrated annually on June 8 to raise awareness about the critical role oceans play in sustaining life on Earth.
The 2026 celebration was themed ‘Reimagine: Beyond the world we know, a new relationship with our ocean’, with global initiatives also focusing on the goal ‘Strong Marine Protected Areas for Our Blue Planet.’ The annual event, supported by a network of over 2,000 organizations in 180 countries, features beach cleanups, educational seminars, and community-led adaptation projects.
An AI Overview notes that “ocean conservation artists use their creative mediums to raise awareness about marine issues, such as plastic pollution, overfishing, and coral bleaching.
