Actress Karisma Kapoor, who serves as the judge on the dance reality show “India’s Best Dancer” season 5, has shared that her journey in cinema and her memories of the medium have been defined by the iconic songs she has performed. On the occasion of World Music Day, the actress shared that she is quite amazed by how the younger generation interprets music. Talking about the same, she said, “Every time I step onto the set of ‘India’s Best Dancer’ season 5, I am amazed by how a whole new generation interprets music through their incredible expressions and movement. It beautifully reminds me that music has always been pure nostalgia, magic, and emotion all wrapped into one. When I look back at my own journey in cinema, some of my most beautiful memories are defined by the iconic songs I got to perform.”
She further mentioned, “Music has this incredible power to instantly transport you back to a moment, a feeling, or an era. It is so inspiring to see how a single melody can spark such diverse storytelling on stage today. This World Music Day, celebrate the songs that make you smile, the beats that make you dance, and the melodies that touch your heart. Keep celebrating the magic of music every day.”
Earlier, the actress had revealed which film of hers demanded the longest rehearsals. Recalling her most memorable rehearsal experience, Karisma shared that “Dil To Pagal Hai,” co-starring Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit, remains the film she rehearsed the most for. Meanwhile, Karisma has shared some fond memories working with the legendary choreographer Saroj Khan and her son, choreographer Raju Khan. She shared a playful anecdote about the mother-son duo. In the show, the elder sister of Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor Khan, reflected on her journey with Raju Khan and expressed her happiness at sharing the stage with him.
Karisma said in a statement: “I have done many songs with Raju ji, and I am so happy and privileged that he is here for the first time while I am judging alongside him. We are here to celebrate his mother, celebrate him, and let me share a little joke and trivia.” She further recalled a light-hearted joke that the late Saroj Khan would often make about her successful collaborations with Raju.
“Saroj ji was my guru and she taught me dance. As I mentioned in the last episode, she choreographed me up until the song Tamma Tamma Loge. We had a running joke in the industry whenever she made me dance. She would say, ‘I am your guru, but you do more superhit songs with my son.’” “She always loved that, of course. She loved her son dearly, loved all of us, was always very supportive of his creativity, and we all spent a lot of time together.”
Karisma recalled her initial doubts about her film “Haseena Maan Jaayegi.” The actress shared why she once felt the film might not perform well. “Raja Babu” actress revealed that she had even told David Dhawan that if anyone noticed a certain shot, it could affect the film’s success. However, she later laughed while noting that no one ever picked up on it.
Karisma revealed, “I’ll tell you an interesting story. First, all the scenes of the film Haseena Maan Jaayegi were shot in Goa. Then I went to David ji and asked, “David ji, where am I in this film?” He told me, “Don’t worry, you will have two songs in the film—just wait and see what’s going to happen.” And then we shot “What Is Mobile Number.” This is the magic of cinema, and this is the charm of Indian-style dance. I don’t know if you are aware, but the story of this film was based in Goa, whereas in the song we were actually dancing at The Retreat Hotel in Madh Island Resort.
