Funun Arts Group, in collaboration with Daftar Restaurant, DIFC, inaugurated Abstract Connection, an art exhibition showcasing the works of four talented and experienced artists (Sept. 23 – 30). The event marks the beginning of a cultural journey that will bring similar immersive experiences to the UAE every month, combining fine art with intimate dialogue and community engagement, said the hosts.
Abstract Connection is not a conventional art exhibition; it is more on the lines of an interactive experience. Centered around the four artists representing diverse backgrounds and techniques, the exhibition is designed not only to win visual appreciation, but also allow viewers to learn the stories behind the visuals.
Panel talks on inaugural day, for example, allowed each artist to narrate their personal journeys, explain their styles of work, and share the inspiration behind their paintings. The aim was to create a bridge between creators and the audience, encouraging dialogue, reflection, and deeper connection to art. The opening was graced by eminent dignitaries, cultural leaders, and art patrons, including Yaqoob Al Ali, Mohammed Ali, Sultana Farouq Kazim, Abdullah Al Maainah, Kusum Dutta, Meena Kamal, Rayad Kamal, Sonakshi Goel, Ahmed Al Awadhi, Anjani Prakash Laitu, Abdul Jabbar Weiss, Stefania Pomilo and eminent artist, Pari Sagar. Their presence highlighted the event’s importance as a cultural bouquet, bringing together communities to celebrate creativity and collaboration.
Shiba Khan, Founder & Director of Funun Arts Group, said that “at Funun Arts, we believe that art is not just about what you see on the canvas — it’s about the connections, conversations, and emotions it creates. With Abstract Connection, our goal is to craft a space where artists and audiences can meet as equals, exchanging stories and inspirations. The overwhelming response to this exhibition motivates us to continue creating platforms that celebrate creativity, inclusivity, and cultural unity.” Isheeta Sharma, Founder & Curator of Daftar Restaurant, expressed her thoughts: “Daftar was conceptualised as more than a restaurant — it is a cultural hub where food, design, and art come together to nurture a sense of belonging. Hosting Abstract Connection reaffirms our belief that spaces can become catalysts for creativity and dialogue. We are thrilled to collaborate with Funun Arts Group and look forward to many more evenings, where art and community thrive together.”

Sultana Farouq Kazim praised the initiative: “Funun Arts Group continues to inspire through inclusivity and creativity. The way this exhibition blends art with conversation makes it not just an event, but an experience of the soul.” Ahmed Al Awadhi, cultural patron, remarked: “Abstract Connection is a testament to Dubai’s vibrant art ecosystem. Collaborations like this empower artists, engage audiences, and elevate the UAE as a hub for creativity.” Abdullah Al Maainah highlighted the community spirit: “Art is a universal language, and tonight it speaks to everyone here,” he said. “The diversity of the artists and the hospitality of Daftar, has created an unforgettable evening.”
Featured artists are Rafah Abdul Razzak, Yuvika Grag, Jivan and Rita Chehab. Rafah Abdul Razzak (Syria) is a versatile artist and owner of Reem Art Gallery; she is known for experimenting with various mediums, from embroidery and graphite to acrylic and oils. “Art is my way of redefining boundaries,” she said. “Every stroke represents resilience and the desire to evolve. Through this exhibition, I want to show how creativity has the power to connect people across cultures.” Yuvika Garg’s (India) work captures narratives of tradition and modernity. “My paintings are stories woven in colour,” she said. “Exhibiting at Daftar allows me to share these stories with an audience that truly listens and reflects. It is an enriching dialogue.”
Jivan (Armenia) is an Abstract Expressionist, with over 38 years of experience. “Art taught me that art lives not just on canvases, but in spaces where people breathe and interact,” said the artist. “This exhibition is a continuation of that philosophy — bringing art closer to life.” Rita Chehab (Lebanon) is an artist whose work combines emotional intensity and refined technique. “Art is deeply personal, yet profoundly universal,” she said. “Standing alongside such diverse artists reaffirms my belief that creativity transcends borders and languages.” Abstract Connection is envisioned as the first in a series of monthly exhibitions; the next spotlight will be on different artists, themes, and dialogues.

Each event will curate fresh narratives, giving audiences an opportunity to discover new artistic voices, while fostering stronger cultural exchanges. The initiative underscores Funun Arts Group’s mission to create sustainable, inclusive platforms for artists, and Daftar’s philosophy of making dining an immersive cultural experience. Together, they are determined to build bridges between communities, promoting art as both expression and dialogue. Established in 2016, Funun Arts Group has evolved into one of the UAE’s leading art platforms, connecting emerging and established artists across disciplines. With more than 3,000 artists and 1,500+ students engaged in its initiatives, Funun Arts is known for its inclusive exhibitions, student art shows, cultural festivals, and cross-border collaborations.
Located in Dubai’s DIFC, Daftar Restaurant is a cultural dining space conceptualised by curator Isheeta Sharma. Its interiors and menu celebrate nostalgia, while reimagining Indian classics for a modern palate. Designed to be a place of belonging, Daftar merges culinary, design and cultural experiences. The restaurant itself carries a layered identity: Daftar means both “office” in Hindi/Urdu and “notebook” in Arabic. The collaboration between Funun and Daftar is where the palate and the palette come together in the heart of Dubai.
