New deals set to boost Moscow’s international film projects
As part of the business program of the Moscow International Film Week, the Moskino Film Factory hosted the session “Film Cities: From Location to Ecosystem.” A key highlight of the event was the signing of four international agreements on cooperation in film industry development with leading film centers from Egypt, Mexico, Brazil, and Turkey.
The session explored how major cities have become global hubs for film production thanks to advanced infrastructure, modern technology, and active international collaboration. Against this backdrop, Moscow strengthened its global partnerships by formalizing agreements with key international institutions.
The new partners include the Egypt Film Commission in Cairo, the national authority coordinating film production and promoting Egyptian cinema worldwide; RioFilme in Rio de Janeiro, which has been shaping the city’s film ecosystem for decades and is now ready to share its expertise with Moscow; and TESİYAP in Istanbul, the Turkish Association of Producers, whose cooperation will allow Moscow to work with Turkish production companies on more favorable terms and expand joint projects.
An additional memorandum of understanding between Moskino and Mexico City film Commission. The document outlines the development of a comprehensive cooperation agreement in the field of cinematography, aimed at formalizing the existing collaboration and expanding the partnership to further support the industry’s growth.
The Moskino ecosystem, which initiated and coordinated the agreements, brings together a film commission, a backlots park, and a modern film factory. This structure enables Moscow to build international partnerships across multiple areas — from organizing shoots and scouting locations to attracting investment and promoting completed projects.
These agreements mark a new stage in strengthening Moscow’s international ties in the film industry. They provide for the exchange of experience and best practices between cities, joint project development, global promotion of Moscow’s locations, technological and infrastructure cooperation, as well as creating favorable conditions for international productions in the Russian capital.
