Emirati superstar Hussain Al Jassmi received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine on Friday.

Jassmi took to Twitter and said: “Praise be to God, today I received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and praise be to God for the blessing of the Emirates, and thank God for the existence of leadership whose primary concern is people. Our homeland and our people are proud and always at the top, with thought, wisdom and support for our leadership, and I am proud of my belonging to this country.”

Jassmi shared another tweet that read, “The first way to start success is prayer…”

Jassmi shared a photo of himself taking the jab with his signature smile.

The Emirati superstar thrilled the crowd with his concert on Dec.31. He entered the stage with a video highlighting his music career playing in the background.

Al Jassmi said: “I cannot describe my feelings being here in Khorfakkan, the city I was born, raised and educated in. This is the city that I spent the best years of my life in, singing on its beaches and mountains before debuting on its radio station. I am overwhelmed, feeling all the emotions a son has for his parents, his friends, and also the pride and joy of an artist carrying the message of art to all people.”

Meanwhile, the UAE authorities have been urging members of the public to get vaccinated.

In the past couple of weeks, a series of ministers and officials have taken the vaccine shots.     

The UAE health ministry announced the launch of a national campaign calling for the people of the UAE to take the vaccination, with priority being given to the elderly or those with chronic diseases.

In line with the Ministry of Health’s plan to provide the vaccine to more than 50% of the country's population, the authorities announced that a total of 53,859 doses were given in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of the doses to 941,556.

As part of the continuous efforts to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the vaccine is now available for all community members, except the following categories:

• Pregnant women

• Nursing mothers

• People with immunodeficiency diseases

• Woman planning to become pregnant within the near future (3 months from taking the vaccine)

• Children under the age of 18 years

• Those who are allergic (to any vaccine, food, medicine, or substance or those who carry self-injectable adrenaline)
