Sesame Street, children’s TV announced its first Rohingya Muppets to aid refugee children in overcoming trauma.

Noor and Aziz Yasmin, the six-year-old twins will join the show’s famous acts Elmo and Louie to create educational videos in Rohingya language in the Bangladesh refugee camp, said Sesame Workshop.

Sherrie Westin, president of social impact at Sesame Workshop said: "Noor and Aziz are at the heart of our efforts to bring early education ... to children and caregivers ... impacted tremendously by the dual crises of displacement and the COVID-19 pandemic."

"For most Rohingya children, Noor and Aziz will be the very first characters in media who look and sound like them... (they)will bring the transformative power of playful learning to families at a time when it's needed more than ever before,” she added.

Based on figures by the UN, children make up more than half of Rohingya refugees that arrived in Bangladesh in 2017 from Myanmar.

According to Sesame Workshop, Noor is a curious girl who makes up funny new rules for games. Aziz on the other hand is a storyteller whose creativity distracts him from daily tasks at times.

Bangladeshi non-government organisation BRAC, a partner of the programme, said the video segments would begin "soon".
