In this tech-savvy world, where knowledge of gadgets makes you smart and digital advancement is vital, it is not difficult to find many who are totally at sea navigating the world of electronics or social media. For every gadget geek there is one Luddite, so to speak. American actor, singer and director Christopher Walken is a striking example. He does not have a mobile phone, a computer or ever even sent an email.

And he does not think he has any need for it. Age could be a factor. He is 77, and at that stage his self-esteem will not allow a kid to get the better of him in technology.

Walken has appeared in more than 100 films and television programmes. He has received many awards and nominations, including the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for “The Deer Hunter.” His films have grossed more than $ 1billion in The United States alone.

He is known for his versatility and is named as one of Empire magazine’s “Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time.”

However, the Oscar-winning actor is not big on technology.

During an interview via Zoom on "The Late Show", Walken told the host: "Somebody had to come and set this up because I don't have a cellphone or a computer."

The host asked if Walken had a moral reason for avoiding technology, reports ew.com.

"No, no. I just got to it too late. I think I'm right at a certain age where it just passed me by. And I never got involved in it because it would be strange to have any 10-year-old be much better at it than I am," the 77-year-old replied.

The actor continued saying that mobile phones were like watches because "if you need one, somebody else has got it".

He also said he has never sent an email or texted or been on Twitter.

"Sometimes on a movie, they'll give me a cell phone, but it's more so that they can find me … like a tracking collar. If I want to use it, someone has to dial it for me, that kind of a thing," said Walken.
