Rolex announces the launch of the Sea-Dweller Deepsea Challenge. With the new challenge, the Swiss watchmaker has managed to plunge to greater depths of 11,000 meters. One of the main components that allows this is Rolex’s patented helium escape valve. This feature was served on both the Sea-Dweller and Sea-Dweller Deepsea models. It safely extracts helium molecules and prevents them from causing damage such as shattering the crystal.

There are some additional features that help the Sea-Dweller Deepsea Challenge achieve its water-resistive performance. Its Ringlock system is designed to drastically reduce stresses induced on the crystal, which become greater the further it is submerged. This is achieved with a stainless steel inner ring being placed between the sapphire crystal and titanium case back.

Most of the pressure is being absorbed by the ring. It has allowed Rolex to make the case thinner than it would have been without it. The watch has been specifically designed for people with an active lifestyle and prefer underwater adventures.

This leads us nicely to the most notable characteristic of the Deepsea Challenge, the usage of Grade 5 Titanium. Using Titanium is hugely beneficial for a watch this big as titanium is around 40 percent lighter than steel. Therefore it is much more wearable and comfortable on the wrist, especially if used for deep-sea expeditions.

Rolex in Dubai has set the retail price of the Sea-Dweller Deepsea Challenge at AED 104,200. Featuring a 50mm case and a 60-minute rotatable bezel, it is the perfect timepiece for sea adventurers.

Unlike its predecessors, there is no date function displayed on the dial. The idea behind this being the watch is designed for short-term diving trips making the need for a date display redundant. The bracelet also caters to those who need an adjustment on the go. Its fully brushed 3-link Oyster Titanium bracelet features both a Glidelock extension system and a Fliplock extension link. Providing the user with maximum adjustability when worn over a thick wetsuit.
