Dubai Customs, Tanzanian team discuss ways to boost cooperation

The delegation was headed by Ally Possi, Ministry of Works and Transport Deputy Permanent Secretary and included Hamza Saidi Johari, Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority Chairperson, Mussa Ibrahim Mbura, Tanzania Airports Authority Co-Chairperson, and a number of Tanzanian officials.
From DP World Suhail Al Banna - CEO and Managing Director - Middle East and Africa and AbdulAziz Al Marzooqi - Manager BD Research & International Relations — Middle East and Africa Region attended the meeting.
From Dubai Customs, Mansoor Al Malik, Executive Director for policies and legislation Division, Yousef Al-Hashmi, Acting Executive Director of Customer Management Division, Ibrahim Kamali, Director of Passenger Operations Department, Younis Othman, IT Director and Falah Khalil Al Sammak, Senior Manager of Terminal 2- DXB Airport participated in the meeting.
Dubai Customs briefed the visitors with customs procedures and best practices at the Passenger Operations Department and the role of Mirsal 2 in developing customs services. Musabih highlighted the strong ties between the UAE and Tanzania and Dubai customs’ efforts to enhance means of cooperation with the Tanzanian partners in aviation and transport sections. This aims at furthering Tanzanian efforts in developing customs services provided to passengers and traders benefiting from Dubai Customs distinctive performance in customs procedures and services sector.
He added; “Dubai Customs is working to achieve its vision to maintain its role as the leading customs administration in the world supporting legitimate trade, through the permanent development of its services that enhance trade facilitation and support the movement of tourism and travel in implementation of the Dubai Customs Strategic Plan 2021-2026. With this in mind, we have developed a number of systems and applications including the iDeclare app., which enables passenger declare what they will carry with them in advance saving them time and hassle. In H1, 2022 around 27.86 million passengers used Dubai International Airport.”
Musabih also talked about progress made in the e-commerce field, especially after the building of Dubai Customs Cross Border e-Commerce Platform; the first of its kind in the region. The platform facilitates e-commerce trade for companies in transport, logistics and shipping. The platform will encourage e-commerce players to have distribution facilitates in Dubai to serve the region. Another major initiative in Dubai is the World Logistics Passport, which aims to boost South-South trade. The World Logistics Passport links Customs World, DP World, and Emirates Group to enhance connectivity through Dubai and, through expertise sharing and process development, directly between partner countries.
For his part, Ally Possi expressed his appreciation for the development achieved by Dubai Customs in commercial and customs services provided to travelers and traders, stressing the keenness to benefit from the experience of Dubai Customs by enhancing cooperation and coordination to support the development of mutual economic and trade relations.
