Dubai firm commissions a new RDF plant, a first in the region

Dulsco, an integrated solutions provider and the Official Waste Management Partner of Expo 2020 Dubai, continues to drive environmental sustainability with the successful introduction of its Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) plant, currently located within the Expo 2020 premises.

The waste to energy plant has the capacity to process more than 70,000 tonnes of waste per annum – which is the equivalent of 7,000 rubbish trucks diverted away from landfill.

The RDF plant has an innovative processing methodology that treats waste to produce a refuse derive fuel product. The plant is the first of its kind in the region.

The waste is pre-treated before being processed and the output product conveniently serves as a fuel feed to power the plant itself or is used by cement and other factories as an environmentally friendly and more sustainable alternative to natural gas.

The RDF Plant, which enables Dulsco to treat waste, underpins the company’s commitment to sustainability and supports its drive toward achieving a circular economy with an effective long-term solution for waste management in the region in line with the UAE’s Circular Economy Policy 2021 - 2031.

David Stockton, CEO, of Dulsco, said: “The waste to fuel plant is an important addition to our collection of waste treatment facilities, as treating waste arising is an integral part of a sustainable waste management process.”

Expo 2020 was a great platform for Dulsco to utilise our state-of-the-art processing facility and expertise to treat waste which helped us achieve in excess of 85 per cent waste diversion from landfill.

Our aim is always to find solutions to make the communities that we serve more efficient, productive and sustainable. We will continue to invest heavily in technology and innovation, as we remain committed to supporting the UAE’s drive for sustainability and the country’s mission to achieve a circular economy”, Stockton added.

Factories and businesses across the UAE can now access the waste recycling services from Dulsco and contribute to a greener, more sustainable economy.

Dulsco, an integrated solutions provider, has recently commissioned a new material recovery facility in Dubai.

Located at Ras Al Khor, the new recycling processing plant has a capacity of 80,000 tonnes per year.

The facility is capable of sorting 240 tonnes of multiple waste streams per day. Waste is separated into different types of dry mixed recycling based on material type before going through various processes, depending on the type of waste.

Oversized elements are separated from the rest of the feedstock, with the remainder being segregated into different fractions and undersised materials. Product material then runs through a further separation process to recover metals.

Following this, plastic and other materials are selected and sorted, with oversized items sorted during the last stage of the production cycle. Recovered and separated material is then compressed in compact bales and sorted, ready for collection and further recycling.

Meanwhile UAE-based Dulsco’s Outsourcing & Permanent Placement Solutions (OSS) division has signed a channel agreement with Target Recruitment & HR Solutions (Target HR), one of Egypt’s largest human resources companies, to facilitate the placement of candidates.

Dulsco is one of the leading providers for outsourced staffing solutions across the UAE and the Gulf region, while Target HR commands more than 50 per cent of the HR outsourcing market in Egypt. Under the agreement, the two organisations will be able to outsource services on behalf of one another in their respective countries.

The endeavour holds myriad benefits for both companies, as well as for job seekers, including enabling the companies to establish a presence in untapped markets, allowing for the provision of outsourced staffing services across geographic regions, and sharing valuable insights into regional job seeking trends.

Commenting on the partnership, Tiago Costa, Chief Operating Officer – Outsourcing and Permanent Placement at Dulsco, said: “Our partnership with Target HR fortifies our strategy for international expansion and to supply customers with a diverse range of quality staffing solutions that best meet their requirements. We believe that the agreement offers tremendous potential for both parties to expand their reach. This is another solid step towards strengthening relationships and building a robust partner network.”

Mohamed El Derwy, Chief Executive Officer at Target HR added: “We are delighted to enter into this partnership with Dulsco and to leverage their experience and longevity in the industry. With the sets of goals in common, Dulsco & Target will strive to work towards achieving the best results and provide tailored solutions for our clients through up-coming collaboration offerings. This partnership will pave the way for strategic and comprehensive solutions for our clients.”
