The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates announced in a circular to banks, informing about the official weekly holiday for the banking sector.

It said that all banks operating in the country must open their branches to provide services to the public for at least five hours a day and for a period of six days, including Fridays.

Gulf Today obtained a copy of the circular.

The Central Bank said that it is left to the banks to determine the working hours and work of the administration and back offices as needed and to implement the shift system for the branches in accordance with the laws in force in the country.

The circular excluded working hours during the holy month of Ramadan, as they are subject to the notifications of the Central Bank in this regard.

The Central Bank cancelled the previous notice of 2003 regarding the working hours of bank branches in commercial centres and the previous circular of 1992 regarding the banks.

These new instructions will be put into effect as of January 2, 2022 and all clients must be notified about them.
