As expected Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lifted the IPL trophy for the third time by defeating the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday in Chennai. KKR literally routed SRH by 8 wickets. They played an incredible game as a team. They looked dangerous from the beginning of this tournament. This year was a bit different for KKR as their former captain Gautam Gambhir was with them. I could see the difference in Gautam’s presence. No doubt, the team looked very good from the word go. Their team selection was great.
All of their players performed like champions be it Sunil Narine, Venkatesh Iyer, Mitchell Starc, Andre Russell, Varun Chakaravarthy or Harshit Rana. I also appreciate the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, who magnificently led his team. He himself was in very good form. But I feel sorry for SRH, who also played very good cricket throughout the tournament under the leadership of Pat Cummings, but they lost out in the final. I appreciate Cummings for taking his team to the top. Kudos to him indeed. But I am happy to see that SRH got a few great young players on their side and I am sure next year they will come harder.
