Members of the Sharjah Capability Development (Tatweer) demonstrated an admirable spirit of adventure and challenge by successfully reaching the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa at 5,895 metres above sea level.
A total of 13 out of the 14 participants were successful in reaching the peak, thereby achieving a remarkable feat.
Tatweer’s associates were able to achieve this objective as part of the Towards Peaks programme, which has the overarching goal of empowering young people to overcome significant challenges. The programme comprises three distinct stages: firstly, participants must ascend a local peak; secondly, they must climb an Arab peak; and finally, they must climb a global peak.
Following a rigorous training programme, the participants were able to ascend to the peak. This programme involved intensive exercises designed to equip them with the skills necessary to climb mountains and to acclimatise to varying heights and terrains.
Tatweer undertook a monitoring role with respect to the participants' performance during the three phases of the programme, with the objective of ensuring that they were adequately prepared to face the challenges of climbing.
The programme was designed to enhance the participants' abilities in a number of key areas, including teamwork, persistence and perseverance, resilience, and mental and physical resilience.
The participants expressed their pride in this accomplishment, underscoring that the experience was replete with challenges, but also presented an invaluable opportunity to acquire new competencies and enhance self-assurance.
Furthermore, the participants highlighted the significance of the assistance they received from the trainers and supervisors, who furnished them with guidance and motivation throughout the training period.
This achievement is not merely an ascent of a mountain peak, it is, rather, a compelling message to young people in Sharjah that embracing challenges and perseverance can facilitate the opening of new horizons and enhance their abilities to achieve their goals and ambitions.
Tatweer anticipates the continuation and expansion of this programme, with the inclusion of additional events and adventures that inspire youth and enhance their capabilities. This will contribute to the development of their community and motivate them to challenge and innovate.
Sharjah Capability Development (Tatweer) was established with the aim of contributing to the progress and the sustainable development of the Emirate of Sharjah through enabling young leaders.
Since its establishment in 2005, the Sharjah Capability Development (Tatweer), a constituent of the Rubu' Qarn, has pursued the objective of attracting and empowering young leaders for the betterment of the Emirate of Sharjah.
