GCC exemplifies brotherhood and solidarity: Member states

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) celebrated its 43rd anniversary of the Council’s founding on May 25, 1981, in Abu Dhabi.

UAE Government Media Office also took to their official X account to celebrate the occasion with a post which said, “The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries celebrate the 43rd anniversary of the Council’s inception in Abu Dhabi on May 25, 1981. Today, the GCC moves forward with greater solidarity and integration to achieve the aspirations of its people and enhance their development.”

Dr Abdullatif Bin Rashid Al Zayani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain, affirmed the Gulf Cooperation Council’s (GCC) commitment to the security, stability, and aspirations of its member states by fostering economic citizenship, progress, prosperity, and constructive cooperation to establish regional and international peace and cultural dialogue.

Highlighting the GCC as a model of comprehensive and sustainable strategic partnership, the minister lauded the council’s continuous accomplishments that benefit all GCC citizens, emphasising the GCC’s strong and cohesive cultural and civilisational values and its impactful role on the regional and international stages through visionary and balanced diplomacy.

The foreign minister congratulated King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain and the leaders of the GCC states on the 43rd anniversary of the council’s founding on May 25, 1981.

In a statement to Bahrain News Agency (BNA) on the ocassion, Al Zayani emphasised Bahrain’s commitment, as a founding member of the GCC and current chair of the Arab Summit, to advancing Gulf developmental and integrative achievements and deepening Arab and international partnerships to resolve regional and international conflicts.

He praised the GCC’s success as a pivotal partner in promoting regional and international peace and stability, and supporting sustainable development goals through its strategic partnerships and dialogues with numerous countries and international groups.

He affirmed that the GCC countries are well-positioned to progress towards a Gulf union, given their strong and deep-rooted historical ties, geographic and cultural proximity, shared religion, language, common goals, and destiny. He acknowledged the visionary leadership and the unity of their people as key factors in facing challenges and achieving common aspirations for enhanced security, stability, sustainable development, and comprehensive prosperity.

The GCC has a rich history of strategic cooperation, said Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait Abdullah Al Ehaya.

In a statement to KUNA on Saturday, on the occasion of the GCC’s 43rd establishment anniversary on May 25, the Kuwaiti top diplomat said the efforts and wise policy of Gulf states’ leaders played a great role in pushing forward and developing cooperation amongst their countries at all levels, achieving their goals for the good of their peoples.

The GCC also succeeded in enhancing its regional and international role, becoming a key partner in achieving international peace and stability, he noted.

The Council also triumphed in developing relations with regional countries and international economic groups, the minister pointed out.

Moreover, Al Ehaya said the GCC believes in respecting every country’s sovereignty, supports joint work, and is committed to the articles of the international law and UN principles and goals.

First Secretary-General of the GCC Abdullah Yacoub Bishara affirmed the council’s critical role in reinforcing cooperation among the member states, as well as bolstering ties among its friendly nations and meeting their aspirations to a more prosperous and stable life and future.

In an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of the GCC’s founding, Bishara highlighted the idea of establishing this glorified regional bloc, the stages of its founding, the political and security conditions the region has experienced before and after the establishment of the GCC states.

Bishara lauded the State of Qatar’s profound and positive role in promoting the career of the joint Gulf action since the inception of the council and until this time, adding that he praises the State of Qatar’s stances and positive role. He underlined that Qatar has always been in the first rank with its ambitious initiatives, activities, and effective role within the council.

When the decision of establishing of the GCC was signed, its regulation, charter and statute did not indicate any type of cooperation in the security and military fields, but only included a trade and investment cooperation, the strive to achieve economic integration, understanding and internal building, he noted.

Bishara pointed out that the agility of the founding leaders has opted for working on these fields calmly and gradiantly, with the cooperation being focused on trade and investment areas, in addition to pursuing open economic policies that culminate in entanglement through which other cooperation fields can be accomplished in the far future.
