Abu Dhabi court asks man to pay a woman Dhs200,000 for not fulfilling business contract

The Abu Dhabi Commercial Court obligated a person to refund Dhs200,000 to a woman, with whom a contract was signed to start a project for marketing and development (a system to help institutions in the decision-making process based on the latest research in artificial intelligence) at a total cost of Dhs700,000, but he did not implement the project nor returned the amount she paid.

The woman filed a lawsuit against the person in which she requested that he pay her Dhs200,000 and 12% interest from the date of filing the lawsuit until the full  payment, besides obligating him to pay fees, expenses, and lawyer’s fees.

She explained that she had signed an agreement and partnership contract with the appellee to start a project for marketing and development, and she paid Dhs200,000 but he did not implement the project and did not return her money.

The court clarified that the case papers prove that the two parties agreed under a contract to develop a system to help institutions in the decision-making process based on the latest artificial intelligence research at a cost of Dhs700,000, of which the appellant paid a share of Dhs200,000, provided that the profits are distributed after a year and a half from the date of signing the contract.

The court indicated that the appellee attended the sessions but did not provide evidence of his commitment to his obligations as set out in the contract, and then ruled the termination of the contract and obligated him to pay the appellant Dhs200,000 and 3% interest annually.
