VIDEO: Dhs500 fine, 6 black points for not giving way to people at pedestrian crossings in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Police, in cooperation with the Monitoring and Control Center, has released videos of accidents at pedestrian crossings as part of the campaign to educate pedestrians and drivers from run-over accidents.

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate called on drivers to give priority to pedestrians in the places designated for their crossing, pay attention to pedestrian crossing traffic, and not to be distracted by things other than the road.

The police urged motorists to reduce speed, stressing that the security and safety of pedestrians is a joint responsibility between the pedestrians themselves and the drivers on the roads.

The police stated that according to the Federal Traffic and Traffic Law, drivers who “fail to give priority to pedestrians in the places designated for their crossing,” will be fined Dhs500 and 6 black points.

Last week also Abu Dhabi Police released videos of pedestrian crossing accidents.

The police pointed out that the accident took place because pedestrians did not use the designated crossings.

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate called on pedestrians to adhere to safe crossing from places designated for them, use bridges and tunnels, and adhere to pedestrian light signals at intersections that work in conjunction with light signals to regulate vehicle traffic.

The police warned of the danger of random crossing of the road, which is considered one of the main causes of run-over accidents, and urged pedestrians to adhere to the correct rules for crossing the road and to ensure that the street is free of vehicles.
