A marine scientist almost dived into the jaws of a tiger shark during a conservation tour of the waters in Hawaii.
A video clip was posted on Instagram, showing that diving expert Ocean Ramsey was about to dive into the ocean infested by sharks, on Wednesday, before she spotted a huge shark coming up to her.
According to the video, the shark suddenly emerged from the water.
Shark photographer Juan Oliphant said on Instagram, “We love Tiger shark Queen Nikki’s enthusiasm to greet @oceanramsey Ocean reading an approach quickly and accurately knowing when to respectfully back up.
“@oneoceandiving the safety diver is always the first person in the water and the last person out and the one responsible for respectfully evaluating the sharks behavior before inviting others into the water ”
Ramsey's reaction was unexpected. Instead of being frightened, she laughed and said, "That's how she greeted me."
"Most likely, she didn't mean to attack me, because she can't see... Therefore, I think the fish reacted more to the noise," she added.
Ramsey, who is the CEO of the OneOcean Diving conservatory and education group, was seemingly unphased by the incident and got straight into the water to dive with two other sharks.
The tiger shark is one of the most dangerous sharks, with a length of more than 5 metres, and one of its characteristics is that it hunts solitary.
