Sharjah City Municipality affirmed that there are 15 main requirements which must be met in laundry and ironing shops, in order to practise the activity, explaining that the periodic inspection on these facilities aims to ensure their compliance with these requirements.
The municipality added that since the beginning of 2022, it has carried out more than 3,000 inspection visits to these shops.
Ruqaya Ibrahim, Head of the Health Control Department, affirmed that the municipality has identified 15 main conditions for organising the work of laundry and ironing stores, including:
— Providing washing and drying equipment and devices.
— Taking care of their cleanliness and maintenance.
— Providing adequate sanitation with floors,
— Necessary containers.
— Clothes storage shelves.
— Clothes carriers and their maintenance.
— Plastic bags for clothes.
— Maintaining the general cleanliness of the facility and the cleanliness of the tools and equipment used.
— Contracting a facility to combat insects and rodents approved by the municipality and ratifying the contract.
— Paying attention to the cleanliness of workers and commitment to wearing the appropriate uniform.
— Providing an equipped first aid box.
— Attention to providing appropriate lighting and ventilation.
— Maintenance of walls, floors and ceilings.
— Maintenance of all equipment and tools in the facility.
— Provision of occupational health cards for all employees.
Since the beginning of this year, the municipality has carried out more than 3,000 inspection visits to washing and ironing shops to ensure their compliance with these requirements.
