Dense fog covered a number of areas in the west of the country on Monday, as it lasted for four hours starting from 5:00 am as result of the country being affected by an extension of a surface low pressure system, accompanied by an extension of an upper air low pressure system, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).
Among the areas that witnessed fog formation were Al Ghuwaifat, Ras Ghumais and a number of areas in Al Dhafra region, the NCM said.
The Centre also indicated that the lowest temperatures recorded in the country on Monday was 16.7°C in Damtha area in Al Ain at 6:15 am.
The NCM also appealed to the motorists to exercise caution and abide by the traffic instruction, especially during fog formation, which affect the horizontal visibility, particularly along the inland and coastal areas, to keep the public safety.

In the meantime, the Abu Dhabi Police, on Monday, decreased the maximum speed limit to 80km on the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed International Road (Hamra - Barakah), as a precautionary measure to avoid fatal accident that may happen due to the low horizontal visibility.
The Centre also said that the weather on Tuesday is expected to be fair in general and partly cloudy at times, as clouds may appear eastward by afternoon, with a decrease in temperatures. It is also expected to be humid by night and Wednesday morning with fog or mist formation over some coastal and inland areas. The winds will be light to moderate southeasterly becoming to northwesterly and northeasterly winds, with a speed of 10 – 20 reaching 30 km/hr. The sea will be slight in the Arabian Gulf and in the Oman Sea.
The weather is also expected to remain fair in general and partly cloudy at times. Humid by night and Thursday morning with fog or mist formation over some coastal and inland areas.
The winds will be light to moderate southeasterly to northeasterly winds, with a speed of 10 — 20 reaching 30 km/hr. The sea will be slight in the Arabian Gulf and in the Oman Sea.
On Thursday and Friday, the weather is expected to be fair in general and partly cloudy at times. Humid by night and Friday morning with a chance of fog or mist formation over some coastal and inland areas especially westward. The winds light to moderate southeasterly to northeasterly winds, with a speed of 10 – 20 reaching 30 km/hr. The sea will be slight in the Arabian Gulf and in the Oman Sea.
