56-km water line completed in Sharjah

The Water Department of the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority completed the installation of a strategic water line extending for 56km from Hamda area to Al Badea area with a diameter of 800mm at a total cost of Dhs96 million, excluding the value of materials.  The project aims at enhancing the diversity of water sources in the city of Sharjah and guaranteeing the continuity of service.

Engineer Essam Al Mulla, Director of the Water Department, explained that the SEWGA seeks to strengthen the water networks and raise the quantity of water flow, to meet the rapid growing demand for water in various regions of Sharjah.

“The authority has developed a strategy for water sustainability and network development to keep pace with the comprehensive development process in the areas of infrastructure and the great construction, economic and cultural boom taking place in the Emirate of Sharjah led by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.” Al Mulla added.

He pointed out that the new strategic line, which has been completed and operated, serves the new areas along the Khorfakkan Road. It would be also connected to a number of old lines to serve a number of areas, including Al Seyouh and Shaabiyat on Khorfakkan Road and the Desert Park and the Bardi Reserve in the Central Region, Al Mulla said.

The new line meets the high-end specifications in terms of use of insulated carbon steel installation to suit health requirements. These pipes are considered to be the most robust, solid, bearing pressures and less prone to damage or breakage in the field of water transport. This will enhance and ensure the diversity of water sources in the city of Sharjah and the continuity of service with high level of efficiency.

The project was divided into three phases to ensure speed of completion. The work was carried out simultaneously through 3 different contracting companies in the three phases. The materials had been imported from two different countries to ensure quality and speed of completion, as the project was completed in a year and a half.
