Humid weather to prevail over coasts

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has expected the weather on Friday to be fair to partly cloudy and hazy at times during daytime, with a chance of some convective clouds formation by afternoon eastward.

Humid by night and Saturday morning over some coastal areas with a probability of fog or mist formation. Light to moderate southeasterly becoming northwesterly winds, freshening at times causing blowing dust during daytime, with a speed of 15 – 25 reaching 40 km/hr.

The sea will be slight in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea.

It also indicated that the expected temperatures on Friday would be 45 ºC in Abu Dhabi, 46ºC in Al Ain, , 43 ºC in Dubai, Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain, 42 ºC in Ajman, 44ºC in Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah.

Fog formed over some areas in the city of Abu Dhabi affecting the horizontal visibility in those areas, the NCM added.

The highest temperature recorded in the country on Thursday in Hameem area (Al Dhafra region) was 48.1 ºC at 2:30 pm, while the lowest temperature was recorded in Damtha area (Al Ain). It was 21.9 ºC at 05:45 am, the NCM added.

FORESTS INCREASE CLOUD: Forests are not only key to moderating our climate by sequestering atmospheric carbon, but they also create a cooling effect by increasing low-level cloud. A first global assessment using satellite observations has shown that for two-thirds of the world, afforestation increases low-level cloud cover, with the effect being strongest over evergreen needleleaf forest, according to a press release issued by the European Space Agency (ESA) on Thursday.

Because trees sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and convert it into biomass, forests are widely championed for their role in mitigating climate change. What has been less clear, however, is how forests affect the climate in other ways such as their role in the water cycle and surface energy balance.
