‘Honey, I shrunk the President’

American President Joe Biden and his wife Jill visited former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, at their home in Plains, Georgia, last week.

The White House released a photo of a smiling Jimmy Carter sitting in a chair and holding the hand of First Lady Jill Biden while the president kneels beside a seated Rosalynn Carter.

The image was taken last Thursday as the 96-year-old former president and his wife hosted the Bidens at their home.

Now, hold on, for a moment. Has ‘Gulliver’ come calling? Take a look at the picture carefully. Joe Biden looks tall enough for distinction, but he appears like a giant, almost dwarfing the former First Lady. So does Jill Biden, who is posing next to a much smaller Jimmy Carter.

The photograph shows the Carters sitting in armchairs, with the Bidens kneeling next to them.  It has sent social media into a tizzy.

Since being posted yesterday, the picture has gone viral with over 77,000 'likes' and many puzzled comments.

"Am I the only one who thinks this looks like a tiny doll museum, and Joe and Jill are giants?" asked one Twitter user, according to a report in an Indian TV news channel.

Well, blame it on photography. The weird proportions in the now-viral pic were most likely caused by a wide-angle lens that distorted the subject size. According to PetaPixel, Joe and Jill Biden were closer to the camera than Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter, and because of how wide angle the shot was, they appear much bigger than they actually are.

The private meeting brought together the oldest sitting president and the longest-lived former president in history. Jimmy Carter didn't appear outside his home with Biden afterwards. Instead, it was Rosalynn Carter who stood in the doorway, supported by her walker, as the Bidens departed, according to the Associated Press.

Biden's stop in Plains was part of a swing through Georgia to mark his first 100 days in office. Biden said of Carter: "We sat and talked about the old days.”
