Asian trio bribe police officers, get 2 years' jail and Dhs200,000 fine in Dubai

The Dubai criminal court has sentenced three Asian men to 2 years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Dhs200,000 on them after they attempted to bribe two police officers in Dubai.

After completion of their jail term they will be deported.

The incident occurred in June 2020, when the first defendant who was arrested on robbery charges and taken to the police station to be held accountable.

While being behind bars, the defendant manipulated his way to try to bribe the police officers assigned to guard him, by offering Dhs200,000 for the officers’ help in dropping the case filed against him.

Officers played along and agreed to the defendant’s freedom deal, and allowed him to use their phone to make a call and arrange for the payment.

The defendant contacted his two other accomplices and asked them to get his cheque book to the police station where he was held.

As soon as they arrived, the defendant signed a Dhs150,000 cheque and handed it to the officers, saying that remaining Dhs50,000 will be paid after his release.
