Gang of 11 Asians held for stealing 662 laptops worth Dhs2.4m in Sharjah

Sharjah Police have arrested a gang of 11 Asians for stealing 662 laptops worth Dhs2.4 million from the warehouse of an electronics company operating in the emirate.

According to Colonel Omer Ahmed Abul Zoud, Director of Criminal Investigation Department (CID), a report was received from a company for computer trading that as many as 662 laptops had been stolen from its warehouse based in one of the emirate’s industrial areas.

The investigation and search team formed found that the gang members used stealth to mislead the police but the highly experienced investigation agents foiled their plans and the perpetrators were arrested one after the other, though there were no tangible evidence in the scene.

Abul Zoud stated that the perpetrators stole two cars to transport the stolen items, cut off the security camera installations in the warehouse, stole the digital storage device and left without leaving any evidence or fingerprints.

He pointed out that the investigation agents analyzed and extrapolated the crime scene and studied the modus operandi of the gang to reveal the identity of the perpetrators, track their movements and hence set traps to catch them and recover all stolen items.

He called upon the owners of trading companies and warehouses to take caution and secure warehouses that contain valuable goods and property by hiring guards and ensuring that proper illumination is provided to the facades of their companies and warehouses to prevent such crimes.

He warned the owners of trading companies and stores not to be involved in purchasing goods without obtaining invoices or documents indicating their source in order not to be subject to any legal accountability as a result of such transactions.

Abul Zoud also called on all members of the community to co-operate with the police to prevent crimes by reporting any suspicious behaviours to the CID number 80040 or 901 in non-emergency cases.
