VIDEO: Massive fire breaks out in Sharjah highrise

A massive fire broke out at a residential apartment in Al Nahda, Sharjah, on Tuesday.

The Sharjah Civil Defence teams are at the site to control the fire in a residential apartment in Al Nahda.

The building has been evacuated. Civil Defence teams are securing the area to stop the fire from spreading to other building.

Fire tenders from several areas are taking part in the dousing of the blaze.

The fire happened in the highrise in Al Nahda.

The affected residential building is near the Taj Bangalore Restaurant in Al Nahda, Sharjah.

Fire erupted at approximately a little bit after 9 pm.

By 9:15 pm, Gulf Today saw an ambulance from the direction of Abu Shagara rush through the Al Majaz District (Al Wahda Street).

By 9:50 pm, another ambulance from Abu Shagara towards to the same direction whizzed by Al Wahda Street.

At 10:45 p.m, siren was again heard over Al Wahda Street.

John Paragas, who lives within the area had texted his church mates for intercessory prayers.

He said, "Please pray. There is a big fire here in our place."

Paragas said, "I and my family are all safe. We are inside our car now, in front of ICook restaurant. A second building is already affected…"

The building is said to be 56 storeys.
