Sharjah court defers case of Asian charged with assault

The Sharjah Criminal Court adjourned a case in which an Asian was charged with assaulting two young men and stealing their two mobile phones and gold chain.

The first complainant, 19, stated that while he and his friend were on their way back home in Al Nasseriya, the defendant and five others blocked their way and beat him and his friend in the neck before stealing two mobile phones and a gold chain he was wearing.

He explained that the defendant was aware of where his house was located because he rented a room in his grandmother’s house for two weeks.

He added that the defendant, accompanied by others, came to his house at the time of the incident, noting that his friend had borrowed a sum of money from him and had not given it back but he knew this only after the defendant had assaulted them.

When confronted by the court, the defendant confessed to having taken two mobile phones from the two young men without assaulting them but did not see any gold chain. The defendant said he did so after the complainant insulted him when he called his friend to demand him to give the money back.

The defendant promised to give the two mobile phones as soon he was released.

The court adjourned the case for a verdict on March 31 but the defendant continued to be remanded in custody.
