Brothel clerk jailed for 5 years, fined Dhs100,000

DUBAI: A man facing a five-year-jail term and Dhs100, 000 fine for working as a brothel clerk saw his clemency plea trashed by the Dubai Appeals Court on Wednesday

The Asian defendant (a miller, 36) with the help of a pimp (a labourer, 28) and the brothel treasurer (an unemployed man, 33,) ran the den in Hor Al Anz until a brawl attracted police attention.

The pimp plunged from a second floor window escaping from the bloody brawl on April 21 last year, according to records at Al Muraqqabat Police Station. The trio confessed to charges in court.

They had demarcated an apartment into rooms using plywood and welcomed a streetwalker’s clients funneled in by the pimp. The clerk collected Dhs50 from each and handed it to the treasurer.

The Dubai Criminal Court jailed each one for five years plus deportation and a Dhs100, 000 fine. It ordered the flat be locked. The clerk appealed for mercy. The Dubai Appeals Court rejected his plea.

In Al Muraqqabat Police Station records, an Iranian policeman testified that he was patrolling in the area at around 12:15am when the operations room alerted him an Asian man had plunged.

The policeman said he found the pimp sitting at the building’s entrance bleeding from the right arm that he had wrapped in a cloth. He revealed he fell out of the apartment’s kitchen window.

A support patrol and an ambulance arrived. Cops knocked on the apartment door and heard an injured Arab client -who was referred to the Misdemeanours Court- screaming for help inside the apartment.

His right thigh was injured and his trousers slit open. The streetwalker had a bleeding cut on her left thigh. The floor was stained with blood and broken pieces of glasses had scattered all around.

Records showed a dispute broke out after the pimp demanded the Arab client and his countryman to surrender unpaid balance. They exchanged punches and slaps and used broken glasses to inflict injuries.
