Justifiable crackdown

It’s so unfortunate that small group of people ignore the guidelines by the government regarding rainy weather and its instructions to motorists to make sure that everyone remains safe on the flooded roads by the heavy rain (“Ras Al Khaimah Police arrest 9 motorists for reckless behaviour during heavy rain,” March13, Gulf Today website).

I am sure the majority of residents of the United Arab Emirates obey the government instructions and follow the weather update guidelines while driving their vehicles in heavy rain but few people who violate the law just to show off their driving skills put innocent people’s lives in danger.

The arrest of 9 motorists for reckless behaviour during heavy rain is a clear message from the authorities that no one is above the law. Drivers, who were fined Dhs2,000 each, with impounding the vehicles for 60 days, and 23 traffic points, shows anyone who crosses the limit will be accountable and will be punished.

I hope people will be more careful in future and follow the government’s guidelines and instructions during rainy weather so everyone on the roads remains safe and enjoys the rainy season.
