In cooperation with Al Qudra Sports Management and with the participation of more than 400 contestants of different ages, Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) is organising the first Duathlon Ajman 2020, which will include running and cycling. The Duathlon will be held in Al Zorah on Friday 10 January.

The Duathlon, which will start at 6 am, is divided into 3 basic categories: The 55 km Olympic Category (a 10 km run, cycling for 40 km, and a 5 km run); the Running Category (a 5 km run, cycling for 20 km, and a 2.5 km run); and the Super Race Category (a 2.5 km run, cycling for 10 km, and a 2.5 km run). This will make it possible for participants of all levels to compete. The first three winners in each category will receive prizes.

Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, ATDD Director General, said, “We are increasing the number of tourism, sports and commercial activities in order to integrate these sectors; events tourism is one of the main points of interest in the Emirate. We are keen to promote Ajman as a distinctive destination and to enhance its position on the local, regional and international tourism maps in line with Ajman Vision 2021, which aims to welcome 800,000 hotel guests by 2021.”

He added that Duathlon Ajman is part of a series of sporting and recreational events that ATDD has planned for this year. ATDD will introduce more events to attract the public’s interest and this will have a positive impact on the growth of Ajman’s tourism sector. In addition to offering amateur athletes the opportunity to learn more about this type of competition, the Duathlon will provide professional athletes with the chance to compete in the appropriate categories.

The Duathlon will accept participants’ applications on a “first come, first served” basis until January 8th. Registration fees for the Olympic Category and the Running Category range from Dhs 105 to 200, while the fees for the Super Race Category range from Dhs 95 to 200.
