Joyce wins Dubai Duty Free Mark Fahy Memorial Golf

The rolling fairways of the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates played host to the Dubai Irish Golf Society (DIGS) for the annual Mark Fahy Memorial Golf Tournament sponsored by Dubai Duty Free.

On what was a perfect day for golf in Dubai, over seventy DIGS members turned out to support the event, which runs in Memory of Mark Fahy, a former Dubai resident.

With the strong field and challenging course conditions, the champion golfer on the day was William Joyce with a score of 39 points, with this wonderful score William secured the Dubai Duty Free – Mark Fahy Memorial trophy.

With the champion golfer crowned it was onto the men’s division: in third place after a card playoff with a score of 36 points was Dara Devereux, runner up with 37 points was Michael Walsh, and the men’s division winner was Connor Duffy with 38 points.

Commenting on the success of the tournament, Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman & CEO of Dubai Duty Free said, “Once again, we are delighted to host this event and to see a great turnout with all players following strict Covid-19 guidelines to ensure that the day went off safely. This year marked the 16th year of the annual golf event which honours Mark Fahy, a good friend of Dubai Duty Free and of the Irish community.

“Thanks to all Dubai Irish Golf Society participants and to Jumeirah Golf Estates for their efforts in ensuring the safety of our players and that a great day was had by all,” added McLoughlin.

The winner of best gross with a score of 75 (+3) and one shot ahead of the pack was Jonathan Duggan.

The Ladies Division played between the better half of the field was a good contest. The Ladies division runner up was Yolande Harrison on 29 points and the winner on the day with a score of 36 points was Nicola Chittenden.

Both Ladies on course special events, Nearest the Pin on Hole 17 and Longest Drive on Hole 9 were won by Nicola Chittenden. Ronan O’Brien won the Men’s Longest Drive on Hole 14 with Sean Glynn winning the Men’s Nearest the Pin with a great shot in to the 6th hole.
