MGM Orakzai produced a disciplined all-round performance to defeat ANIB XI On Top by three wickets in the final match of the Sharjah Fit Capital Cup at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Set a target of 163 to win, MGM Orakzai crossed the line in 23.3 over for the loss of seven wickets.

Batting first, ANIB XI On Top scored 162/9 in their allotted 25 overs. Basil Hameed 64 off 63 balls, Muhammed  Imran 34 and Abhishek 24 were the main contributors.

Fayyaz Ahmed bowled brilliantly for MGM Orakzai to pick up 3 wickets by conceding just nine runs while Mudassir Ali and Wali Khan picked 2 wickets each.

For MGM Orakzai, Hafiz Kaleem 30, Asif Khan 29 and Waqas Ali 29 were the main scorer.

Asif Hayat bagged one and Sabir Rao claimed two wickets for ANIB XI On Top.

Elsewhere, Fly Emirates put up a superb show with bat and ball in their thumping 36 run win over Mideast Metals in the fourth edition of the Dubai Cricket Council’s Weekend Slammers League at the 7s ground in Dubai.

Put into bat Emirates were catapulted to 187 for 8 from their 25 overs by Abdul Rehman’s power packed innings of 83 which contained a six and eight fours.

Tehran Khan (3-18), Khurram Khawaja (2-40) and Hazrat Bilal (2-41) kept plugging away with wickets at regular intervals but Shadeep Silva managed a decent cameo of 29 runs to give the team a healthy total.

Mideast chased well at the start with Khurram (46) and Lucky Abbas (20) while Zar Mohammad (25 not out) threw his bat around at the end but they fell short with Usman Mushtaq (2-24) and Wajahat Rasul (2-19) keeping it tidy for Fly Emirates.

Against Mavericks too Mideast were on the receiving end with Mavericks’ Nawaz Ahmed, Abid Mohammad, Intezar Ali and Syed Danish grabbing two wickets each.

Batting first Mideast posted 136 with the help of Tehran Khan’s half-century but Mavericks crossed the target in 15.4 overs after man of the match Junaid Hussain (55 n.o.), Ashir Khan (39) and Wahab Khan (26) put the Mideast bowlers to the sword.

In another match, Ronak Panoly’s 68 helped Farooq to reach 163. Ehtisham Siddiq bowled well for Pulse Secure with four wickets.

Later man of the match Adnan Khan struck 63, Shahrukh Shaikh 42 not out and Ibthisam Sait 21 to guide Pulse Secure home in 21.1 overs.

Meanwhile, this year’s Red Bull Campus Cricket World Finals are taking place from Oct. 27 to Nov. 2 at the ICC Academy in Dubai Sports City and are free to attend for spectators.  

The popular competition, which is the only global college cricket tournament in the world, offers aspiring student cricketers a platform to play an international professional T20 tournament.
